Located prominently on the grounds of the Episcopal Cathedral of the Incarnation in north Baltimore, the Children’s Peace Garden was designed in conjunction with the TKF Foundation, the Garden’s primary funder.
Dedicated to children who have been victims of violence in Baltimore, the Garden reflects TKF’s vision of creating spaces that serve all people, regardless of their background, and with the hope of building bridges across communities. Visitor to the Peace Garden come spontaneously as individuals, but are also welcome at a yearly ceremony during which victim’s names are read aloud, and remembered.
A winding path with slightly obscured views draws visitors in the Garden, and is highlighted with asymmetrical planting beds and rough-hewn benches. Flowering trees create a curvilinear border around a small plaza and an American elm suggest the strength that nature can provide. A small bridge leads to the sculpture of a lion and lamb laying together – a gentle call to action.
