Floura Teeter served as landscape architect for the renovation and re-programming of the Julia Rogers Library at Goucher College, a small liberal arts college located in Baltimore County. Originally built in 1952, the traditional library functions have been relocated to a new facility and the building was re-purposed for new classrooms, collaborative learning, and informal gathering spaces.
Changes to the building programs required significant modifications to the site and landscape. Floura Teeter designed a new plaza to replace the existing parking lot turnaround, a new entrance to the adjacent Hoffberger Science Center, a new connection to the parking lot, and a new pedestrian link to the upper quad from the Kelly Lecture Hall. These improvements will reinforce the strong relationship between buildings and landscape that is important to this campus community.
Floura Teeter selected paving and site furnishings to be consistent with the campus standards, and plantings to mitigate challenging grading and utility conditions. The project is LEED Silver certified.
