Horn Point Laboratory is an environmental research facility operating within the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) conducting research in aquaculture restoration ecology. Floura Teeter provided Critical Area field assessments and recommendations for tree preservation and mitigation plantings associated with proposed shoreline restoration and waterway improvements along the Choptank River.
The project included jetty rehabilitation, installation of offshore breakwaters, and establishing staging and stockpile areas. For project areas located within and near the Critical Area Buffer, Floura Teeter outlined preventative measures to avoid or limit impacts to existing trees and a process for monitoring conditions of trees during and after construction. Floura Teeter’s services included coordination of review and approval with the Critical Area Commission.
