This garden was established by the New Holistic Ministries as a healing garden for a neighborhood in transition. The organization sponsors Martha’s Place which is a recovery program for women who are conquering addictions and changing their own lives. The hopeful, but struggling, Upton and Sandtown-Winchester communities are home to this inspiring organization.
Located on the tiny footprint of a demolished row home, the garden nonetheless provides an important place of reflection and community. Floura Teeter created a miniature landscape as the foreground for a woodland mural painted on the remaining facade; it is an organic and contemplative space in this very urban environment. The project was completed largely through the generous help of volunteers.
