Middletown is a small town located at the edge of the Catoctin Mountains in western Maryland.
Floura Teeter provided streetscape design for two miles of Main Street (US 40 Alternate) which includes the historic downtown district. Goals for the design included improving circulation and safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
Floura Teeter performed a comprehensive inventory of existing trees, paving, and site furnishings which provided the framework for the proposed improvements. During the design, Floura Teeter collaborated with the Middletown Streetscape Task Force, community members, and business owners – an important part of the process that established aesthetic parameters for hardscape materials and site furnishings. Floura Teeter’s streetscape design is consistent with both the historic main street character and the rural residential character found along the roadway corridor.
