Floura Teeter provided landscape architectural design services for four new playgrounds and completed design updates for six existing playgrounds within the Maryland State Park System for safety and ADA compliance. Our staff conducted site visits to identify design opportunities and constraints to evaluate both potential playground layouts and accessibility solutions. The design intent of the project was to provide new, nature inspired play equipment and activity areas to foster a connection between children and the natural environment, especially within the State Parks. The State Parks involved include Gunpowder, Seneca, Patapsco, Deep Creek, Rocky Gap and Greenbriar.
For each of the 10 Natural Playgrounds sites, Floura Teeter provided design services from the schematic design phase through construction administration. Floura Teeter prepared conceptual plans, site plans, construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and bid documents. Throughout the construction phase Floura Teeter attended progress meetings, reviewed shop drawings and submittals, responded to RFIs, reviewed contractor change orders, and conducted punchlist inspections.
