And the winner is…

Floura Teeter is pleased to announce the Board of Child Care (BCC) as the winner of our third annual Community Grows Here contest!

Main Office, Gaither_lowresWith the purpose “enriching communities, one family at a time,” the Board of Child Care provides a variety of services for Maryland, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Their core areas of focus are providing residential services for youth and young adults; outpatient mental health therapy; special education via a private school; and an early learning program.

BCC’s headquarters, located in Baltimore, Maryland, is its largest program location. The 26-acre campus includes both residential services for up to 109 youth, the private school, Strawbridge, as well as the offices for its treatment foster care and adoption services programs.

BALTIMORE OVERHEAD - crop finalBCC is currently fundraising to add a playground on their Baltimore campus for students attending the Strawbridge School. With plans for that project already underway, Floura Teeter will focus on reimagining another site on their Baltimore campus, a patio behind the administration building. In its current state, the administration building patio is used for Strawbridge School graduations, informal staff meetings, and other campus functions. However, the patio space feels disjointed and with a better layout it will better serve the youth and staff at BCC.

Floura Teeter will focus on connecting the areas behind the building as one cohesive space and offer design guidelines to make the space more functional for BCC’s staff, visitors, and clients.

16-42 Board of Childcare_Site Visit (2016 06 07)-1Floura Teeter is excited about the opportunity to support BCC in their mission. Our staff has enjoyed learning about this unique charity, the services they provide and clients they serve. Through our visits and conversations we have gained a better understanding of the foster care system and the challenges these youth and students face daily.

In February our third annual Community Grows Here Facebook contest was launched. Colleagues, clients, friends and family had the opportunity to nominate their favorite local non-profit organization to receive support from us throughout 2016. Board of Child Care was selected from the entries received through the Facebook competition.
