The Druid Hill Park Aquatic Center was originally built in 1954 and has been an important component of Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Park’s (BCRP) aquatic programming. The Aquatic Center was in need of an upgrade, so BCRP updated the pool facility with a new bath house and concession building and updated main and diving pools with water slides and play structures in order to create “a resort-like recreation facility”.

Floura Teeter worked closely with the design team to design facilities that will enhance the pool experience as well as provide a cohesive design that will meet the needs of the public and BCRP. Floura Teeter provided decorative enhancements for the pool deck, fencing, and stormwater facilities in addition to following the new Baltimore City Landscape Manual. The image of a wave, representing the theme of “Oasis”, is reflected within the Sundek pool deck pattern, the decorative metal fencing, and the waved metal umbrellas at the concessions area. Bright blues and orange have brought a fresh vibrancy to the pool and have been repeated throughout the space.
