Restoration Gardens is 42-units of community-based supportive housing for teens who are experiencing homelessness; the project breathed new life into an under-invested part of Baltimore City.
Project Approach
The landscape plan focuses on providing nurturing and safe outdoor space for residents. Responding to input from the Empire Homes team, Floura Teeter created small outdoor spaces for teens and staff to gather, share meals, or be to themselves. The spaces are bordered by planting and low walls to create places that are visually connected to each other and to the common room inside. Planted stormwater areas and steep slope provide habitat enhancements, connection to nature, and visual separation from the busy street.
Preservation of the stone wall along the perimeter of the site retains the historic context of the York Road corridor
