The Bon Secours Retreat and Conference Center is located in Central Maryland on a 300-acre campus adjacent to Patapsco State Park. Floura Teeter prepared a master plan for open space at the Retreat Center to enhance the rich existing landscape and strengthen the Center’s ability to connect with nature, encourage fitness and provide opportunities for spiritual reflection for both visitors and staff.
Proposed improvements include a 2.5-mile wellness loop and new plantings along the entrance road, pond and labyrinth. Winding through the entire campus, the trail and outdoor exercise stations are accessible to Retreat Center staff as well as guests. The trail is designed to include:
In addition, planting renovations for several key areas were designed – the entrance to campus, the labyrinth and the pond. Plantings were chosen for seasonal variety, richness of color and texture, compatibility with existing plantings, habitat enhancement, and significance to the Catholic Church.
Bon Secours Retreat Center is a place of respite and reflection which celebrates the beauty and tranquility of the natural environment. The master plan enhances the qualities of this beautiful site while creating opportunities for both visitors and staff to experience and appreciate nature.
