Part of the Peninsula Regional Health System, the recently-opened Institute provides radiation and medical oncology services to patients on the Delmarva Peninsula. Floura Teeter developed a Concept Master Plan for a garden associated with the Infusion Center that would provide comforting and engaging views for patients during treatment in the infusion bays. The space allocated for the Garden was an extremely small space between the building and parking lot.
The Concept Master Plan for the garden features a raised, sinuous fountain element with 15-20 bubblers extending nearly the full extent of the space; a geometry that ensures a changing perspective from each treatment bay. While a small area of boardwalk pavers at each gate entrance allows limited access to the garden, the space is intended to be fully accessible visually from the Infusion Center. Planting in the garden suggests a coastal environment and includes grasses, perennials, small shrubs and trees native or naturalized to the Eastern Shore.
