Lexington Market

The Lexington Market Transformation seeks to revitalize Baltimore’s oldest public market while promoting economic development on the city’s west side. The historic market has been open and in operation since 1782 and consists of seven distinct and interconnected properties. This transformative project honors that history with a new building for the Market and a substantial plaza which will support events and public use.

Floura Teeter’s landscape design includes this plaza as well as streetscape on Paca and Eutaw Streets. Featuring flexible seating, a garden ramp, dynamic stormwater management and soil panels to nurture tree canopy, specialty paving, and integrated accessibility throughout the extremely sloped site. Coordination with the City’s Streetscape Design Guidelines informs the site context and ensures continuity to the City’s urban fabric. Site furnishings will feature hard wearing material appropriate for high use areas while providing a distinct identity to this Baltimore icon.

The new Lexington Market will support local business and transform the relationship of this historic icon to local residents, visitors and tourists and make sure the Market remains vital and relevant for the next 200 years.
