Restoration Gardens 2

Restoration Gardens 2 is a 42 micro-unit residential project, designed to house formerly homeless youth in Baltimore’s Pen Lucy neighborhood. RG 2 provides services to the residents to assist them in their transition to permanent housing and employment. Floura Teeter worked with the design team to create a welcoming environment on a formerly derelict lot.

The historic stone wall and gate were salvaged to frame a front “porch” to provide outdoor gathering space outside the community room. The steep slope created by the building is densely planted with grasses and shrubs to create a beautiful landscape which stabilizes the slope, captures stormwater, and provides habitat. A lawn in the rear of the building completes the reference to home, foreshadowing the journey of the residents to permanent housing.
