Built nearly 20 years ago, the courtyards associated with this residential district have become outdated, overgrown, and under-used by students. UMBC Residential Life identified a number of enhancements to make the spaces more appealing to the 950 residents:
Floura Teeter developed multiple concepts for each courtyard. Proposed improvements include: pedestrian circulation that responds to the wider campus, moveable furniture in lounge areas, grill stations, open lawn space for games/play, and study pods with a variety of seating options (including dining tables, fixed work stations, and conference tables). Special paving, lighting, branded Adirondack chairs, and plantings with 4-seasons of interest create an outdoor living environment that welcomes student residents for study, play and relaxation.
Floura Teeter provided complete construction documents for Erickson Courtyard; it is currently under construction.
